FAQ
Here are some of the most common questions clients ask about Breakthrough Skills.
If you have another question, please email us at
info@breakthroughskills.com.

1. Is it safe for me to shop on your website?
Yes. We offer top-of-the-line site security with a Network Solutions Extended Validation SSL Certificate, the highest level of independent verification that a website is secure. Extended Validation (EV) Certificates trigger a green address bar on Web browsers (Internet Explorer® 7 and above), as well as a closed padlock and "https" URL prefix. These instantly show you that our Web site is not a fraudulent or "phishing" site and is a safe place to transact business. Issued only to businesses eligible under strict validation requirements, EV Certificates are issued only by a select group of Certification Authorities and only after passing a rigorous and thorough examination of our business credentials. SiteSafe™ EV Certificates encode transactional data with the highest level of SSL Encryption available. SiteSafe EV Certificates are issued by Network Solutions, one of the most recognized and trusted brands on the Internet.
2. Why should I read your resources when there are so many other books on these topics?
We think you should read them all! Each one has something valuable to tell you, and even a single new idea or way of approaching a challenge can change the course of your work life for the better.

Breakthrough Skills books are very hands-on and practical. We filled each one with tips and examples you can use the day you read them. Our approach—based on positive language and celebrating success—is also key to what makes our books unique and high value to you.
3. What sort of guarantee do you offer?
We want to make buying our books an easy decision you’ll always be happy you made. That’s why we guarantee you’ll be satisfied. If not, simply return the Rapid-Read Handbook or Workbook via mail, and we’ll refund your purchase price, less shipping and handling, no questions asked.

Our services (one-on-one coaching sessions, Telesessions, and workshops) are not refundable. Please read all the information we provide about these products carefully before purchasing them, and be sure to contact us if you have questions. Remember, your first 15-minute one-on-one coaching session is free, so take advantage of this
“test drive” before purchasing a package of coaching sessions.
4. I’m a practical person. Isn’t all that positive thinking stuff a lot of nonsense?
This is an important question because a lot of people have been frustrated by material that pumps them up for the short term, only to leave them high and dry pretty quickly.

But the fact is, nothing is more practical than a positive approach to change, and now there’s evidence to back this up. More and more research is showing that positive emotions, thoughts, and questions are directly related to success at work and in school, plus long-term health, authentic happiness, creativity, and even problem-solving ability.

For example, in universities, a movement called Positive Psychology, led by Martin Seligman, former President of the American Psychological Association and Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, has been increasing the awareness of optimism’s value and importance. Harvard University’s Positive Psychology course is among the university’s most popular classes. And Positive Psychology courses are being taught on more than 100 campuses at colleges and universities around the country.

In the workplace, a process called Appreciative Inquiry is being used to strengthen teams, build individual confidence, get past significant obstacles, and make everyone more productive.

And in one University of Kentucky study, researchers analyzed essays written by novices entering the School Sisters of Notre Dame. When the essays were compared to the nun’s life spans, 9 out of 10 of the most positive nuns were still alive at 85, while only one in three of the least positive were still alive. Positive emotions seemed to create a 10-year increase in lifespan, more than the difference between nonsmokers and smokers.
5. How long does it take to have a breakthrough?
That depends on you, your work situation, the skill you need to build, and how hard you’re willing to work at it. We strongly suggest that you take your time, and not allow yourself to become frustrated by expecting change to happen too quickly. Here’s a general strategy for building a breakthrough:

STEP 1 - Congratulate yourself! You’re ready to take action.

STEP 2 - Take a few minutes to recall your best achievements from the past year. Remind yourself how talented and valuable you are.

STEP 3 - Build momentum slowly.
Each time you tackle a new Breakthrough Skill, test drive one or two of our ideas each week rather than try to use every suggestion right away.
Find small, low-risk experiences—including experiences outside work (church, family, community service)—to try new skills. For example, to strengthen presentation skills, volunteer to make small presentations at work to just a few people, lead a committee at your church, or join Toastmasters. To improve self-promotion skills, prepare a 30-second self introduction, then go to an industry or professional association meeting and introduce yourself to at least two people.
As your momentum builds, push harder: deliberately create more significant and visible opportunities to strengthen the skill you’re working on.

STEP 4 - Be sure your closest colleagues know about the skill you’re working to improve. Ask for their support and feedback on your progress.

STEP 5 - Recognize and celebrate even the smallest successes. Each one is a victory!

STEP 6 - Use one of our Breakthrough Journals© to record your achievements and the steps you’ll take to showcase them to the people who influence your success.
6. How do I know I need a breakthrough?
This is very individual, but usually, you know because you’ve hit some type of ceiling in your career or business. Your income isn’t growing, you sense that you’re missing opportunities because you have trouble handling conflict or making presentations, you can’t seem to earn the promotion you deserve, you’ve lost your job or want a new job with greater challenges, your team isn’t performing.

The THINK! Workbook can help. It’s a good resource for helping you identify your goals and the breakthroughs you need to reach them.
7. Can I get bulk rates on books for my team, company, or HR department?
Absolutely. Please send us an email with your request at info@breakthroughskills.com. We’ll be happy to help you.
8. Are you available to speak at my company or organization?
Yes! Please visit the Need a Speaker or Workshop Leader? page for details.
